Account billing
The billing accounts you pay with, the workspaces each one covers, and the one button that opens Stripe for the card, the address and every invoice.
Updated October 26, 2026
Billing, under Account, lists the billing accounts you pay with. Each one is one Stripe customer, with its card, its billing address and its invoices, and it can cover several workspaces. The page shows the address on file and the workspaces on each account, and one button opens Stripe's portal for everything transactional; what a workspace is on and what it costs is that workspace's own Billing page.
Where it is
Billing is the third row of the rail's Account group, after Profile and Security, and the same entry sits in the avatar menu at the top right of every signed-in screen; its mark is a receipt. The rail's head names the scope: an "Account" eyebrow, your initials, your name and your sign-in email, or the email alone when you have no name.
The header's locator reads "Account", the title "Billing", and the description: "The accounts you pay with. Each one keeps its own card, billing address and invoices, and can cover several workspaces." A Docs link beside the locator opens this page in its own tab.
To the right, a "Your account" column states your sign-in email, your two-factor method, how many workspaces you belong to, and the date you joined. It is the same column on every account page.
A billing account
A billing account is the payer: one Stripe customer, with one card, one billing address, one VAT number and one stream of invoices, owned by exactly one person. Workspaces attach to it. A workspace keeps its own subscription and its own plan; the account only says who pays, never what is open.
An account appears the first time you put a workspace on a paid plan. There is no form to create one, and nothing in the app edits it: the email, the company name and the address shown here are a copy of Stripe's record, and a change made in the portal shows up here.
Each account on the page is one section. Its heading is the company name entered at checkout, or the billed email when there is none, and the line under it reads "Billed to" followed by that email. Accounts are listed newest first.
Billing address
The first row of an account's card. It shows the address Stripe holds for the customer, on one line, or "None on file yet". The address is collected at checkout and changed in the portal, never here.
Workspaces on this account
The second row lists every workspace this account pays for, each with its mark, its name and a badge with its plan: Free, Starter, Solo, Growth, Agency or Enterprise. A row opens that workspace's Billing page, where its plan, its allowances and this month's event meter are read. The help line reads "Each one opens on its own plan and usage."
A workspace stays on the account that bought its subscription, including after the subscription ends: it then reads Free here and keeps its route to its past invoices. An account with nothing attached reads "Nothing is billed to this account right now."
Invoices & payment method
The card's footer carries the note "Invoices, card and VAT number are managed on Stripe." and one button, Invoices & payment method, which reads "Opening Stripe…" while it works. It opens Stripe's customer portal on this account: the card, the billing address, the VAT number and every invoice the account has ever produced, across every workspace on it. Closing the portal returns you to this page.
The portal opens only for an account you own. When it cannot open, the reason appears under the button.
Choosing a plan for a workspace, and switching its billing cycle, start from that workspace's Billing page, see Buying, changing and leaving a plan.
No billing account yet
With nothing bought yet, the page shows one section, "Billing accounts", with "No billing account yet" and: "One is created the first time you put a workspace on a paid plan — it keeps the card, the billing address and every invoice from then on. You can pay for more workspaces with the same account later." The same section appears when the list could not be read; reload before concluding the account is gone.
Account billing and workspace billing
The two pages answer different questions. The workspace's Billing page says what that workspace is on and what it costs. This page says what you pay with, across everything you own.
The payer is chosen at checkout, once. If you own no account, the checkout collects a new card. If you own one or more, the plan button first asks "Bill this workspace to" one of them, or "A new card". That choice cannot be changed while the subscription lives.
On the workspace's Billing page, Manage billing on a paid plan and Past invoices on a workspace that has bought before open the same portal, but only for the owner of the account that pays for the workspace. A workspace owner or admin who is not the payer sees "This workspace is billed by another account. Its owner manages the card, the billing address and the invoices." instead of a button. See Your plan.
What this screen does not do
- It shows no invoice, no amount and no card. Those are Stripe's, and the portal is the door to them.
- It shows no monthly total. A granted plan reads as its tier and bills nobody, and coupons move the real figure, so a number labeled as a bill that Stripe would contradict is worse than none.
- It merges nothing across workspaces: separate subscriptions produce separate invoices even on one customer. The portal lists them all.
- It creates nothing and edits nothing. The email, the name and the address are changed in the portal.
- It shares nothing. An account has one owner and no members; the list shows only accounts you own.
Questions
- Why does the page say I have no billing account?
- Because nothing has been bought yet. A billing account appears the first time you put a workspace on a paid plan; there is no form to create one. The same section appears when the list could not be read; reload before concluding the account is gone.
- Can one card pay for several workspaces?
- Yes. When you choose a plan for a workspace and already own a billing account, the plan button first asks which account to bill it to, or whether to use a new card. Every workspace on an account is listed under it on this page.
- Can I move a workspace to another billing account?
- Not while its subscription is live: the account chosen at checkout bills the workspace for the life of that subscription. A workspace whose subscription has ended can be put on a plan again from any account, yours or another admin's.
- Where are my invoices?
- In the Stripe portal, behind Invoices & payment method. It lists every invoice the account has produced, across every workspace it pays for. The page itself shows no invoice and no amount.
- Can a colleague who administers my workspace see this account?
- No. A billing account has one owner and no members. The list only ever shows accounts you own, and a workspace admin who is not the payer is told on the workspace's Billing page that another account bills it, with no door onto your card or your invoices.
