Campaigns
Every utm_campaign value your paid clicks arrived with, ranked by paid clicks across every network at once, with the name and hidden flag your workspace puts on each one, and a star of your own.
Updated October 26, 2026
Campaigns lists every utm_campaign value your paid clicks arrived with, across every network at once, ranked by paid clicks and grouped by network when more than one platform ran. Each row carries its paid clicks, how many of them engaged and completed, its share of the window, and what your workspace says about it: a name over the raw value, a star of your own, hidden or not. A row opens the Overview on that campaign.
What a campaign is
A campaign is the pair of a network and a utm_campaign value, exactly as the click carried it: no lowercasing, no trimming, because it is the key back into the ad platform's own interface. A value of nine or more digits, which is what Google Ads sends, is printed with an ID prefix so it reads as an identifier.
A campaign appears here once one of its paid clicks lands on a page carrying a utm_campaign value. How a network is read off a click's tags is the UTM tags screen's subject; how to tag a link is in Tag your ad links.
The screen
Campaigns sits under Sources in the rail, next to Networks and UTM tags. The header carries the period control (see Time periods) and a button to read again. Top to bottom: a line naming the platforms, four figures, the table of campaigns beside a Setup column.
With more than one platform in the window, the table groups by network. With one platform, or when narrowed to one network, it is a single flat table, and a line above the figures states which platforms it spans:
- Every network, one platform ran. A legend lists each platform with its mark, its name and its paid clicks. Each chip opens this screen narrowed to that platform.
- Narrowed to one network. "Campaigns running on Google Ads." with an "All networks" link that keeps the window.
- Every network, several ran. Nothing renders here; the group headers state each platform's figures.
The figures
Four figures over the table, totaled over the rows listed:
| Figure | What it counts |
|---|---|
| Campaigns | Campaigns with at least one paid click in this window. A row kept at zero is not counted. |
| Paid clicks | Every listed campaign's paid clicks, summed. |
| Engaged | Paid clicks whose session reached a secondary conversion or the primary one. |
| Completed | Paid clicks whose session reached the primary conversion. |
Engaged and Completed are the two rungs of the funnel the Conversions screen reads in full. Hidden campaigns are not in these totals while they are set aside.
Named campaigns
The table is titled "Named campaigns", or "Named campaigns on Meta" under a network lens. Campaigns are ranked by paid clicks; no control reorders them. The one thing that moves a row is your own star (see The star, below).
When the window spans several platforms, the table stacks one block per network, ranked by that network's paid clicks. A block's header carries the platform's mark and name and its own figures: how many campaigns, their paid clicks, engaged and completed. A platform that ran only in the comparison's previous period still gets its block, with zero totals, ranked last.
The filter
"Filter campaigns…" narrows the rows on screen. It matches the raw utm_campaign value and the workspace's name for it, ignoring case and accents, and not the network. A count beside the field states the list's size ("12 campaigns") and "3 of 12 campaigns shown" while a query narrows it. When nothing matches: "Nothing in the named campaigns ranked here matches “brand”." — under a network lens, "Nothing in the named campaigns on Google Ads matches “brand”." The list holds at most 200 campaigns, only the ones that arrived tagged.
When there is nothing to list
A window with no campaign reads "No campaigns observed in this period." and what would fill it: a campaign appears as soon as one of its clicks arrives tagged with a utm_campaign value. Under a network lens it reads "No Google Ads campaigns observed in this period.", followed by "Other platforms did run campaigns in this window." with an "All networks" link, or by "No named campaign arrived from any platform in this window." when none did.
The columns
| Column | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Campaign | The workspace's name for the campaign, or "No name" in muted type when nobody has named it. Under it: the network's name (in the flat table only), the raw utm_campaign value as sent, "Hidden" when a set-aside campaign is listed, and the campaign's status when it has one. |
| Paid clicks | The paid clicks that arrived carrying this value in the window. |
| Change | Only under a comparison. The paid clicks against the previous period. See below. |
| Engaged | Paid clicks whose session reached a secondary or the primary conversion. |
| Engaged % | Engaged over the campaign's own paid clicks. Wide screens only. |
| Completed | Paid clicks whose session reached the primary conversion. |
| Share | The campaign's paid clicks over the Paid clicks figure above, the same denominator for every block. Under half a percent reads <1%; otherwise whole percents; a dash when there is nothing to divide by. |
A zero in a count column is faint: an observation that did not happen, not a grade. The footnote states the bases: "Campaign names are the utm_campaign values observed at click time — untagged clicks stay on the monitor, under all campaigns. Share is of the clicks counted above; Engaged % is of the campaign’s own clicks." The monitor is the Overview. On a phone each row becomes a card with the same facts.
Status
The line under a campaign's name can carry one of two facts:
- New when the campaign was first seen within the last 7 days.
- No clicks since Sep 28 when it has not been seen for 7 days or more.
An active campaign carries nothing. Both are dates, not judgments: a campaign that went quiet may be paused on purpose.
The star
The star at the right of a row is yours alone. Any member can set one, including a read-only member. A starred campaign ranks first; starred and unstarred campaigns are each still in paid-click order. A starred campaign the window did not see keeps its row at zero.
The row
Clicking a row, or the name, opens the Overview on that campaign, carrying the window and the comparison you were reading. An arrow appears at the row's right on hover.
Change, under a comparison
The period control has a Compare section with two options, No comparison and Previous period. With Previous period on, the table gains one column, Change, next to Paid clicks. The cell reads:
- a signed percentage, "+18.4%" or "−7.1%", with the previous period's count and dates on hover ("vs 1,204 · Jul 27 – Aug 2");
- new when the previous period had no paid clicks for it;
- stopped when the previous period had paid clicks and this window has none. The campaign keeps its row, at zero.
A change carries no color and no arrow that means good, and switching the comparison on never reorders the table. When the previous period reaches beyond what your plan can read, the table is complete for the current window and a line above it says: "Comparing this window needs history behind your plan's window. Every event is kept — the window is how far back this plan can look." See Plans and billing.
Setup
The column beside the table holds a Roster card, "N known", with one fact a line: Named (of the known campaigns), Hidden, Starred by you, New this week, Dormant. The Hidden count is a link that shows the set-aside campaigns. For owners and admins, a Next steps list can follow: "Name N campaigns" for campaigns that ran in the window under the network's raw id only, and "Name the network of N campaigns" for campaigns that read as Other Paid.
Hidden campaigns
An owner or admin can set a campaign aside. It leaves this list and the campaign switcher; it never leaves a total. The Overview, the Networks screen and every site figure ignore the flag. On this screen, the figures and Share are computed over the rows listed, and a line under the table says what was set aside: "2 hidden campaigns not listed · 318 clicks in this window, still in every site total." with a "Show them" link. Showing them adds the rows back, each marked "Hidden"; the line reads "Listing 2 hidden campaigns — counted above while shown.", and "Set them aside" returns to the default view.
Editing a campaign
The pencil at the right of a row opens the editor. Owners and admins only; roles are described under Members and roles. It holds:
- Name — up to 120 characters, placeholder "A name your team recognises", with the raw
utm_campaignvalue printed under it. A blank name clears the label. - Hide from lists — a switch, with the line "Its clicks still count in every total."
- Save, with "Shared with the workspace." beside it. On failure: "That didn’t save. Try again."
A name sits over the raw value, never in its place. The raw value is what you paste back into the ad platform, so it stays printed under any name.
The campaign on the Overview
Opening a row lands on the Overview narrowed to that campaign. The title is the workspace's name for the campaign, or "No name", and the line under it reads the network's name and then the raw value ("Google Ads · ID 21987654321"). The star and an "Edit campaign" button sit beside the title, the same two controls as the row's.
The breadcrumb's campaign switcher lists the site's campaigns under the network in force, starred ones first, each showing the name or "No name" over a shortened value and its paid clicks. "All campaigns" is the default row and carries the paid clicks of the whole lens, untagged clicks included. With no network in force, a value that ran on several networks is one row with its paid clicks summed.
What this screen does not do
- No row for untagged clicks. A paid click that arrived without a
utm_campaignis counted in the site's totals and on the Overview under all campaigns. It never becomes a row here called "(untagged)". - No chart, no column picker, no sort control. It is a list ranked by paid clicks.
- No cost. No CPC, no estimated spend. Cost belongs to the ad platform.
- No verdict. "New" and "No clicks since" are dates.
- No per-campaign access. Who can see a campaign is decided at the site and the workspace, never per row.
- No merging. Two spellings of one campaign, or one campaign on two networks, are two rows. Name them alike if you want to find them together; the filter matches names.
- Names stay off the dense screens. The live feed and the record screens print the raw value, not the workspace's name. The Conversions screen prints the name when one exists, with the raw value beside it.
- Hiding never shrinks a number. Every total outside this list still counts the hidden campaigns.
Questions
- Why does a campaign read "No name"?
- Nobody in the workspace has named it yet. The value the ad platform sent is printed on the line under it, and an owner or admin can give it a name from the pencil on its row. The raw value stays visible under any name.
- Does hiding a campaign change the totals?
- No. Hiding takes a campaign out of this list and out of the campaign switcher. Its paid clicks still count in every site total, on the Overview and on Networks, and a line under the table says how many campaigns were set aside and how many paid clicks they carried in the window.
- Why does a campaign with zero paid clicks still have a row?
- A campaign you starred keeps its row at zero when the window did not see it, because you asked to follow it. Under a comparison, a campaign that ran in the previous period but not in this one keeps its row and its Change cell reads "stopped".
- Where are my untagged clicks?
- Not here. This screen ranks utm_campaign values, and a click that arrived without one has no name to rank. Those clicks stay in the site's totals and on the Overview, under all campaigns.
- Can my teammates see my star?
- No. A star is yours only. A name and the hidden flag are shared with the whole workspace, and only an owner or admin can set them.
